Edwards Small Mortuary announces with our deepest sympathy the passing of Roy Rumph on February 13, 2025. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
A LIFE FILLED WITH LOVE
To our beloved father, brother, uncle, friend and grandfather, Roy Lorenzo Rumph, who was born on January 24, 1953, in Fort Valley, Georgia. Roy graduated from Peach County High School, and he moved to Decatur, Georgia, to continue his education at Georgia State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and began a lifelong career in the information technology field.
Roy worked as a computer programmer for Norfolk Southern Railway before transitioning into various information technology consulting roles. After the Y2K period was over, he made a conscious decision to leave corporate America in pursuit of a less stressful and more fulfilling life. One he continued to enjoy throughout his retirement years. His passion for technology, problem-solving, willingness to lead others, and ability to provide guidance and mentorship left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him.
Beyond his career, Roy found tremendous joy in spending time with his family and friends, reading the Holy Bible and many other religious books, traveling, writing, and studying the financial markets. One of Roy’s greatest joys in life was spending time with his two grandsons. He was always playing games with them, sharing laughter, and imparting wisdom. A devoted fan of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Hawks, he almost never missed a game on TV and enjoyed having season tickets to attend Falcons games during the Michael Vick era. He also loved walking on a daily basis and could often be found relaxing in his favorite "Archie Bunker" recliner, where he would read books, watch movies, and take many naps, especially after meals.
Roy was passionate about his appearance and was known throughout his life for being sharply dressed, but he was even more known for being the person who would give thoughtful advice through his love and compassion for others. Regardless of who the person was, he was always willing to help in times of need. He possessed a quick wit and a great sense of humor and could still make you laugh even if you were the target of his jokes.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, Willie Brown Rumph, Sr.; his mother, Mary Emma Rumph; his brothers, Jerry Leroy Rumph and Ervine Eugene Rumph; and his grandson, Craig Lorenzo Rumph, Jr. Roy departed this life on February 13, 2025, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of wisdom, kindness, and love. He believed in the importance of lifelong learning and always encouraged those around him to pursue knowledge and personal growth. His laughter, thoughtful conversations, and generosity will be deeply missed.
Roy leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Craig Lorenzo Rumph, Sr.; his brother, Willie Brown Rumph, Jr.; his sisters, Virginia Ann Evans, Constance L. Rumph Griffey and Mary Darlene Rumph; his grandson, Isaiah Christopher Rumph; his uncles, Sammy Harris (Inez) and Nathan Harris (Johnnie Mae Harris); his aunts, Ida Jones, Barbara Robinson and Rose Lee Ivory; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Our family is forever grateful for his presence, and we are fortunate to have been able to share him with all of you. He will be missed greatly but never far from our thoughts. REST IN PEACE WITH YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER!
