Edwards Small Mortuary announces with our deepest sympathy the passing of Mr. Leward Walker on November 18, 2024. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
LEWARD WALKER, affectionately known as “LEE”, was born July 18, 1947, in Fort Valley, Georgia to the parentage of James B. and Emma H. Walker. He was the fifth of nine children. He made his peaceful transition to glory on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Atrium Health Pine Point Hospice & Palliative Care Facility in Macon, GA.
Leward was educated in the schools of Peach County and was a proud 1965 graduate of Henry Alexander Hunt High School. He furthered his education at Fort Valley State College (University) and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology in 1969. He started his career in Social Services working for HeadStart Programs in Tuskegee, AL. His chosen career also afforded him opportunities to work in Flint, Michigan and Tampa, Florida. Leward changed careers and started his next chapter as a Substance Abuse Counselor at Macon State Prisons. In 1992 Leward and his brother, Willie, also started FALL-LINE ALARMS in Fort Valley. He later transferred to Pulaski State Prison in Hawkinsville, Georgia from which he retired in 2022 as Program Director of Substance Abuse. Since retiring Leward has enjoyed traveling with his siblings and their families on their many family vacations.
Leward’s love for God was unquestionable. He accepted Christ and joined Usher’s Temple CME Church at an early age and remained faithful until his health declined. He served as a lead psalmist in the Male Chorus as he gave praise unto God through his gift of singing.
Leward was a born fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his brothers and friends whenever possible, keeping the family tradition of being a “Walker Fisherman”. He was also a skilled painter and often painted for many people and businesses in the Fort Valley and Middle Georgia area. Leward was known for his comical sense of humor and brought joy and laughter to all that knew him.
On September 5, 1967, Leward was joined in matrimony to Claudia Murray, and through this union a beautiful daughter was born. As he continued life’s journey, he found great companionship with a precious jewel, Eva Mae Warren, who preceded him in death.
Leward was preceded in death by his parents: James and Emma Walker; his sisters: Eloise Mason and Gwendolyn Williams; and his brothers: Clinton, James “Jimmy”, Leroy (his twin), and Harry Walker.
Leward leaves to cherish his life two beautiful daughters: Dr Letunya Walker (caregiver), Warner Robins, GA, and Celestine (Larry) Burden, Warner Robins, GA; one very special bonus son, Fontane (Davida) Curtis; two brothers: Larry (Deborah) Walker, Hephzibah, GA, and Willie (Alfredia) Walker, Fort Valley, GA; brothers-in-law: Nathanial Williams, Fort Valley, GA, and Clarence Mason, Cleveland Ohio; five grandchildren: Larry Burden, Jr., Lamaud Burden, Fontane Curtis II, Felicity Curtis, and Faith Curtis; a very special football buddy, John Sayles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends, colleagues and acquaintances at-large that are too numerous to list.
