Jessie Mae Hill

It is with our deepest sympathy that we announce the passing of Mrs. Jessie Mae Hill.  Mrs. Hill entered into eternal rest on January 11, 2024.  Our condolences to the family and friends.

Mrs. Jessie Mae Hill affectionately known as “Ma-Ma” was born on September 1, 1922, in Peach County, Georgia to the parentage of the late John King and Viola Coley King. She was the second oldest of eight children. She received her formal education in the Peach County School System, Fort Valley, GA.

She was employed by the Peach County Board of Education and retired after 17 years of employment.

Jessie Mae was united in holy matrimony to the late Rev. Oscar Lee Hill, Sr. To this union, four children were born, three of whom preceded her in death, daughters, Lucille H. Adams and Joann H. McGhee; son, William B. Hill. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Roberta Kendrick, Victoria Ridley, Johnnie Mae Ridley, Martha Sullivan, and Jack King.

Jessie Mae's faith blossomed early, finding its first home at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she served as an usher, welcoming others with the same warmth she exuded. Later, she moved her membership to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, dedicating her years there until her health gently led her hand away.

We are eternally grateful for God's gift of Jessie Mae, whose immense heart and radiant smile graced five generations of our family. Her boundless generosity wasn't confined to family, however, as she opened her arms to countless children in the community, showering them with the same warmth and love she lavished on her own.

She loved deeply, her affection reaching across generations. As a devoted mother, nurturing grandmother, cherished great-grandmother, proud great-great-grandmother, great-great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, she showered her family with warmth and pride. Her faith was strong, her heart pure, and her smile unforgettable.

Jessie Mae peacefully made her final transition on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the age of 101.

She leaves to cherish her memories and honor her legacy; son, Oscar Lee (Luverne) Hill, Jr.; two grandchildren she raised as her own, Dorothy Adams-Brown and James (Dawn) Adams; two sisters, Lou Redding and Rachel Johnson; one sister-in-law, Ella King; Grandchildren, Dorothy Adams-Brown, Tony McGhee, Debra (John Todd) Shipp, Sharon (Marvin) Walton, Samuel (Chandra) McGhee, Tammie Hill, Cassandra (Richard) Gunnell, Gerald McGhee, Peggy Hill, James (Dawn) Adams, Carol H. Wolfork and Whitney Vinson; 32 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren, 5 great-great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
