Greta Renee Oates

Greta Renee Oates, born on May 20, 1964, in Fort Valley, Georgia, transitioned to eternity on January 1, 2025. Greta’s presence in this world was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, community, and dedication to her craft as a talented cosmetologist. She was the proud owner of Greta's Hair Corral, where she brought joy and confidence to her clientele through her exceptional skill and warm demeanor.

Greta received her education from Peach County High School and later earned a degree in Medical Billing and Coding from Middle Georgia Technical College, showcasing her commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth. Her vibrant spirit and zest for life were evident in the way she engaged with others, whether through her artistry in cosmetology or her hobbies such as traveling with friends and family, working on word puzzles, indulging in arts and crafts, and decorating for events. Most notably, she treasured the time spent with her family and grandchildren, creating cherished memories that enriched her life.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ulysses Oates, Jr., her father, Willie James Jones, and her beloved children, daughter Denesha Oates-King (Christopher) and son Devon Oates. Greta was also a devoted sister to Linnea McFarland (New Jersey) and her bonus sister, Samantha Everett (Macon), as well as a caring sibling to Christopher McFarland (New Jersey) and many others. The joy of her life extended to her grandchildren: Lelani Oates (Fort Valley) and Khar King and Arya King (Hawkinsville). She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Greta was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Wizzerlean McFarland, and her grandmother, Florence Smith. The love she shared and the laughter she spread will forever echo in the hearts of those she touched.
