Evelyn Keturah Ross

Edwards Small Mortuary announces with our deepest sympathy the passing of Evelyn Keturah Ross.  Evelyn entered into heavenly rest on June 24, 2023.  Our condolences to the family and friends.

Evelyn Keturah Ross age 77, a beautiful soul, died peacefully at home with her family by her side in Perry, Georgia from Pulmonary Complication June 24, 2023. Born April 26, 1946 in Fort Valley, Georgia to her proud parents Mart and Mable (Parker) Ross.

Evelyn attended the Peach County Training School and Henry Alexander Hunt High School. Upon graduation she migrated to Newark, New Jersey in 1967. Evelyn continued her education at Essex County Community College receiving an Associate Degree in Humanity. She later attended Rutgers University with a B. S. Degree in Social Services.

She was baptized in the Church of God and Saints of Christ and remained faithful through death.

For 25 years, she worked for the Essex County Department of Social Services and retired due to health conditions. She and a group of young ladies started a club called "The Inner City Six", they worked faithfully to help those in need. As a member of the organization "The Daughter of Jerusalem" whose goal is to aide in suffering in humanities. Showing her faithfulness in working for God. In spite of her illness, it never affected her ability to inspire and comfort, always with a smile on her face and never really complaining about herself. She was always a "Lady" ready to share with others.

She enjoved watching westerns, mysteries and game shows; to name a few, Gunsmoke and Agatha Christie.

She was predeceased by her parents as well as 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by a brother, Thessalonia Ross of Fort Valley, Georgia. A sister, Marion Ross Miller of Perry, Georgia, A sister-in-law, Annie Eva Ross of Vienna, Georgia. Several devoted nephews whom she was a mother figure to, Gary Miller, Nasson Miller and Lajuan Miller all of New Jersey. A devoted friend, Jackie Jeffries of St. Thomas, Virgin Island. Many nieces, nephew, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, other relatives and friends.

During her long illness she was blessed with many loving and devoted caregivers such as Basemah Abdul Basser, Jyoti Patel, Uma Patel, Mina Patel, Gita Patel, Tia Braxton, Cynthia Richardson, Tamara Green, Crystal Hunnicutt and many, many more just to name a few. This beautiful soul will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Red Sea Prayer

God, I know that you had the power to part the Red Sea, and that You still have that same power. It was scary for Moses and the people of Israel to step out into that fast-moving water. But, by faith, they obeyed and you blessed. When I face my "Red Seas" of life that look scary, that make me feel helpless or uncertain, please give me the courage and faith to step out and follow You. Help me to keep moving through the doors of opportunities you provide; through the difficult decisions and circumstances of life, because I know You are here with me just like You were with Moses at the Red Sea. May You get the glory for all that is accomplished,
